What is Ethical Porn?

What is ethical porn, and why should we care? There have been several articles written on this subject, and each one argues its importance. Porn has been in the news a lot recently because of the release of The Social Network; but what is ethical porn, and why is it that certain performers use their work to promote pornography, while others do not? Is there even an ethical porn? Well, let us examine these questions together.

Before I begin answering the question with any degree of certainty, I would like to explain what is ethical porn, and why should we care? The term ethical porn was coined in 2021 by a porn writer named James Patterson. He defined it as “a genre of sexually explicit media produced and viewed that involves some form of sexual interaction between adult (usually male) and child subjects”. Some definitions of what is ethical porn have supported James Patterson’s definition, and other critics have rejected it outright. So, what is ethical porn?

This is a tough question to answer. On one hand, there are free tube sites that allow women to advertise on them in exchange for sex. And there are adult websites that are totally free to use, advertise, and view. But, is it really unethical? Some feminist pornographers promote themselves as “ethical” because they offer money for sex, while some other sites are advertised as providing “free tube sites”.

An ethical pornographer may choose to advertise their work as “fair trade” in order to make themselves more credible. However, is this really ethical? What about all those women who went to be exploited in sweatshops for pennies on the dollar, or those who were sold as sex slaves? Is it ethical to buy cheap clothing from sweatshops that produce 500 pieces of clothing a year, then wear that clothing for profit?

So what is ethical porn after all? It is the production of materials that benefit the sexual pleasure of the performers. Some sites that claim to offer free films are actually running a scam. In order to gain access to actresses and models, these so-called “free sites” are required to buy advertising at times up to several thousand dollars. If the model performing in a film happens to be popular, they are offered top billing and leads for much higher fees.

So, what is ethical porn? In general terms, it may not look like real porn, but it most certainly feels like real pornography. You know what I’m talking about. It has scenes of simulated intercourse, where actors perform acts that would not be approved by any real porn user. But the act does not necessarily involve penetration. Actors are filmed doing shots from behind, in various positions, with their own toys, and even without a condom.

There are two main areas of what is ethical porn. The first is erotic fiction, where the performers are given erotic scripts that are designed to cause arousal in the actors. The second is videos and photos, where the performers are filmed for purposes of sexual stimulation. (These could also be interracial or homosexual if the content is intended for those audiences).

Female Gaze porn websites are a perfect example of what is ethical porn. These websites tend to feature completely fictional acts, but they are presented as being entirely sensual and erotic. Because these acts are portrayed in a certain light, viewers can easily understand what is not enticement. Viewers do not necessarily have to participate in the sexual contact that takes place, they can enjoy the visual stimulation without necessarily participating. This level of consent gives female gazebo websites a distinct advantage over other websites that use penetration as the main point of sexual interaction.
